What clothes to wear with a corset?

Certain types of clothing are destined to be worn with a corset. These are primarily wedding dresses and elegant evening gowns.

These dresses are often inspired by Belle Époque gowns and are therefore perfectly suited to corsets. Most waist-cinching corsets are now worn with wedding dresses, and some women remain faithful to their wedding corset.

However, there is another favorite, slightly less elegant: the combination of a skirt, a blouse, and a wide belt. This is actually the ideal outfit for a corset in our time, as this combination can be worn on almost any occasion and is therefore suitable for everyday life. After all, if you wear a corset, you should be able to show it off as often as possible!

Ordinary dresses also look very good with a corseted silhouette, but they must be sewn accordingly.

Lightweight summer dresses, adapted to a corset with a wide elastic belt, are particularly graceful and girly. As part of the current fashion trend that emphasizes the silhouette, we see more and more corsets and matching dresses on the runways of fashion capitals—certainly not without reason!

Another good way to show off a narrow waist—especially for businesswomen—is to wear fitted suits in fashion. Straight, tailored jackets that extend over the hips gain a lot of contrast between the bust, the width of the hips, and the very narrow waist, emphasizing the tailored look of the outfit. The upright posture encouraged by the corset also signals confidence and authority.

Do you like wearing trousers? No problem, but it requires more thought. The corset must be as tight as possible below the waist and flatten the belly. In addition, it must go as low as possible. If so, tight jeans can be worn with a corset. Particular attention must be paid to the size of the trousers: most trousers are far too wide at the waist for a tight waist. This is why a belt is mandatory. If necessary, the trousers must also be sewn. High-waisted trousers (flared) are particularly practical and effective. They can easily be shaped with a tight belt, and the waist then looks its best.

Very tight jeans, made from highly elastic fabrics, are a recent development. We are talking here about "skinny jeans" or "slim-fit jeans" or, more recently, "jeggings". The advantage of these tight jeans is that they follow the line of the corset exactly and thus perfectly highlight the molded silhouette. It is particularly important to ensure that the corset flattens the belly so that no unsightly bulges are visible. This is much more effective than any diet that promises a flat belly. Such a corset is more demanding to wear than a corset that accentuates the belly, because the pressure on the body is significantly greater, especially in the lower belly area. But the aesthetic advantage more than justifies this extra challenge.

Once again, these tips are not made up, but developed and experienced by myself. I often wear trousers with my corset, mostly high-waisted trousers, but also tight jeans. To illustrate this, you can look at the photos on this site. You can thus see what a corset looks like on a modern woman AND what the clothes that go with it can look like.

These clothes are nothing extravagant, but are such that almost all women have similar pieces in their wardrobe. I want to promote this style of dress in relation to the corset, because I think that few modern ladies or young women want to wear Victorian clothes on the street.

In addition, I would like to add, based on my own experience, that you can save a lot of money with a corset: You can buy clothes of any price and elegance you wish, you will attract much more attention by wearing a corset under ordinary clothes!
