4 ways to wear your corset
Wearing a corset is an amazing way to create an hourglass figure. It can also help you make a statement in your wardrobe.
We have gathered four ways to wear your corset that will turn heads and add a new dimension to your wardrobe.
WHAT GOES WELL WITH A CORSET?
There are two ways to wear a corset. The first is as an accessory in your wardrobe. The second is a practice called "corsetry," sometimes also called "waist training."
Corsetry consists of wearing a tightly laced corset daily for several hours. This creates a dramatic hourglass shape and is designed to complement your other waist-slimming efforts, such as exercise and a healthy diet. The more you wear your corset, the more your body gets used to it, and you can tighten it further.
You can wear a corset with almost anything, depending on the look you are going for. If you are wearing it under your clothes and want to hide it, make sure your clothes are not too sheer or thin. If you are wearing it over a top or dress, you will generally want to avoid thick or structured fabrics.
Here are some of our favorite pieces that pair well (over or under) corsets:
High-waisted jeans
Contrasting colors
Button-up shirts and blouses
Skirts of all cuts and lengths
Jumpsuits
Dresses and flowy dresses
CORSET STYLE 1: FULL HIDDEN COVERAGE
If you want to train your waist but do not want to show your secret to everyone, you will love a corset that shapes the entire torso and easily conceals under your clothes.
The Hourglass Angel HA202 cotton underbust corset uses flexible steel boning for powerful compression, which slims your waist into an hourglass shape while lifting the bust and smoothing problem areas around the stomach, hips, and back. The cotton makes the garment lightweight, making it ideal for everyday wear under casual, formal, and professional clothing.
Wear this piece under a dress for an amazing foundation for formal looks. You can pair it with your favorite bra to achieve the exact silhouette you want.
CORSET STYLE 2: HIDDEN SHORT CORSET
You do not have to wear a full-length corset to get dramatic results for your waist. A short corset focuses on your waist and creates an enviable hourglass figure.
The Hourglass Angel HA107 underbust short corset offers dramatic waist compression in a comfortable and flexible satin design, ideal for wearing under other clothes. The strong but flexible steel boning gives your silhouette an amazing hourglass shape without uncomfortable pinching or pulling.
As the satin fabric glides smoothly under clothes, it is an ideal piece to wear under tops and dresses that accentuate the midsection. Pair it with high-waisted jeans and cuts that cinch the natural waist.
CORSET STYLE 3: VICTORIAN-STYLE OUTERWEAR
You can achieve a beautiful and sometimes bold vintage look by using a full corset as outerwear. This will serve a dual purpose: you will slim the entire midsection of your body while creating an enviable look.
The Hourglass Angel HA206 mesh underbust corset works perfectly under or over your clothes. As it is made of mesh, it is an ideal piece for warmer climates and pairs well with blouses and shirts. The extra hip coverage helps smooth out bulges around the waist, while the high cut lifts the bust and conceals back bulges.
Try pairing this corset with your favorite button-up shirt or dress for a fun and flirty look, as well as jeans and heels.
CORSET STYLE 4: THE WASPIE STATEMENT PIECE
A short-cut corset, also called a "waspie," is the perfect statement piece as outerwear. It is versatile and comes in many styles, making it a must-have piece in your wardrobe.
We love the Hourglass Angel HA201 underbust waspie mesh corset. The mesh ensures better breathability, allowing you to stay cool while showing off your curves. It highlights your figure with powerful abdominal slimming, which visibly reduces your waist size.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to wearing this pretty mesh choker. Wear it over your favorite printed dress for a unique piece.
HOW TO WEAR A CORSET CORRECTLY
No matter how you style it, it is important to know how to wear a corset correctly. This will allow you to wear a well-fitting garment and get the best results.
An effective corset starts with a good fit. When you order your corset, make sure to take your waist measurement first. Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the narrowest part of your waist, which is about 5 cm above your navel, where there is a natural curve when you lean to the side. The tape should be flat but not too tight. Also make sure it is level.
Once you have the measurement, use it to determine the correct corset size. Our size charts are specific to our corsets, so make sure to follow their instructions. If you are between two sizes, we always recommend taking the larger size. Remember that you can tighten the laces to achieve the desired effect.
A steel-boned corset has fasteners at the front and laces at the back. It should be loose when you first put it on. Do not tighten the laces yet.

BREAKING IN YOUR CORSET AND GETTING USED TO IT
A brand-new corset must be broken in before you fully tighten the laces. The first time you wear it, tighten them gently toward the middle of your back, as if you were tying your shoes. Tighten them enough so that the corset is comfortable, but not so much that there is strong tension.
(Do you not like tightening the laces? Try the Hourglass Angel HA208 Rapid Fit Fan-Lacing Corset. Instead of tightening the lacing from the back like standard corsets, you can simply pull the side straps to achieve a tight and even fit).
Wear your corset like this for an hour or two a day for about two weeks. After that, the garment should fit your figure well, like a glove. Tighten the laces as much as you want.
It takes some time to get used to the feeling of a corset if you are not used to wearing one. One of the benefits of a corset is that you can get used to wearing it all day. If you do not want to wear a corset regularly, but for a special event such as a wedding, we recommend getting used to wearing it all day.
Start by wearing your tightly laced corset for an hour or two at a time. Gradually increase the time you spend wearing your corset every day until you are comfortable wearing it tightly for at least eight hours a day.
TIPS FOR SUCCESSFULLY WEARING A CORSET LONG-TERM
Once you have started wearing a corset, you may love the look so much that you will never want to stop! Here are some tips for successfully wearing a corset long-term, so you can be and feel fabulous every day.
If you cannot choose the style you like best, try them all! Rotate several corsets in your wardrobe. You will find that having more style options will help you maintain your corsetry habits.
Eat nutritious foods and exercise regularly. Although wearing a corset daily helps you look slimmer while you wear it, this practice is more effective if you adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Do it with a friend! It is much more fun, and you can hold each other accountable.
Be patient with your results. The corset experience is different for everyone, and you will see results at different rates.
Also try latex waist trainers. Even if you wear a corset most of the time, you may want to break your routine. You will also love the results you get from wearing a training waist trainer.
If you are not interested in wearing a corset daily, make sure to plan ahead. As we have seen above, it sometimes takes time for your body to get used to the feeling of the corset. If you plan to wear a corset all day with a particular outfit, ease into it to be more comfortable.
Do what feels good to you. Do you need to take a break from wearing a corset? Take one. Do you love it? Then keep wearing it until you want to!
Track your progress. If you are following a corsetry regimen to slim your waist, take photos and waist measurements to see your results step by step.
Reward yourself. If you succeed in following a corset regimen and achieving your waist-slimming goals, treat yourself to a new outfit or even a smaller corset. This will help you stay on track.
