How often should you wear a waist trainer?
Getting started with waist training can be an exciting time. But if you have never done it before, you are probably wondering how often and for how long you should wear a waist trainer to get optimal results. A common question we receive is: how many hours and how often should I do waist training? This post on "how long should you wear a waist trainer" should also help you!
The answer depends on several factors, including your goals, your experience, and the type of waist trainer you use. We thought it would be helpful to give you a detailed explanation of what to expect, as well as a waist trainer checklist to help you get better prepared for success.
5 things to know before you start
Before getting into the details of how long you should wear your device, there are some things you need to know before you start.
You can get instant results, even without dieting.
One of the qualities we love most about waist trainers is that they give incredible and instant results. Simply putting yours on can reduce your waist by 1 to 3 inches and flatten your stomach. Although we strongly encourage you to try a waist training program as part of a healthy lifestyle, it is important to remember that you should see results immediately, every time you wear the garment. This can help you stay motivated in your long-term slimming program, as you can see what a thinner waist looks like and how you feel.
The fit and style suited to your needs are essential
You need to be sure you are wearing the right garment. Otherwise, you will not get the results you expect. The most important factor in finding the best waist trainer is the fit. So be sure to measure your size accurately and follow our custom size charts. You also need to make sure you choose a device suited to your body type and lifestyle. It takes time for your body to adapt
Once you have found the right waist trainer and have checked that it fits you, you need to be patient. If you have never worn a compression belt before, you may be surprised by the feeling of tightness it can provide.
It is a high-compression garment, so tightness means it is working. However, it will take time for your body to adapt.
Most people who commit seriously to a waist training program find that it takes them several weeks of daily practice before they get completely used to wearing such a garment all day, every day.
Your waist trainer needs to be broken in
Not only does your body need an adjustment period before you start wearing your waist trainer for long periods, but the garment itself also needs to be broken in.
It is a bit like a pair of shoes. If you plan to wear it to a special event, make sure you have worn it for at least a few hours before wearing it for a longer stretch.
Steel corsets especially need to be "broken in" by wearing them several times before fully tightening the laces. We recommend wearing your corset for an hour or two for at least a week without tightening the laces, to avoid damaging the garment and to make sure it fits you like a glove. Check out this article for more tips on wearing a corset.
Not all waist trainers are the same
Each style of waist trainer is designed a little differently, so you will not necessarily wear them for the same amount of time. Training bands, for example, are designed with more durable materials to withstand vigorous movement and are only designed to be worn for short periods (a few hours maximum). On the other hand, everyday waist trainers are designed to be worn comfortably for long periods. You may need to try different styles to determine which one you prefer and how long you feel comfortable wearing it to get optimal results.
Hours and frequency for a new waist training routine
Once you have become familiar with the basics of a waist trainer, you can decide whether or not you want to follow a waist training routine, meaning doing waist training daily as part of a healthy lifestyle. Here are some tips for each style of waist trainer.
Everyday training devices
- As we mentioned above, everyday waist trainers are designed to be worn for long hours. At first, it is best to only wear it for an hour or two at a time, so that your body and the garment can adapt.
- Start with an hour or less on the first day, to get used to how it fits you. Slowly add half an hour to an hour of wear each day. You can take a day off about once a week, but try not to take too many breaks, otherwise you will slow down your progress. At first, you may find it more comfortable to split your wear into two shorter sessions.
- After a few weeks, you should feel comfortable wearing your waist trainer for at least eight and up to twelve hours a day. After a few months, you can probably tighten the waist trainer to the next row of hooks!
Steel corsets
- Corsets work the same way as latex waist trainers, but you put them on and tighten them differently. As we mentioned above, you need to break in your corset before you can tighten it completely. For one to two weeks, at a rate of one to two hours a day, you need to tighten it until it is snug against your torso, without applying compression.
- After breaking it in, it should fit like a mold against your body once the laces are fully tightened. At this point, you can start gradually increasing your daily wear, just as you would with a waist trainer, as described above. About one month after wearing your corset, you should feel comfortable wearing it for at least eight hours a day.
Training trainers
This type of corset is designed specifically for workouts, which is why we generally do not recommend wearing it all day. Your training band may become quite damp anyway, so you will want to change it to keep it (and yourself) fresh and clean.
We recommend using a training band in alternation with an everyday corset or waist trainer. Put it on for your workouts, whether you are going to the gym, going for a walk, or even doing housework or gardening. Then, to get the best results, put your corset back on once you have finished your physical activity for the day.
You may still have a short adjustment period when wearing your training band, so start slowly and increase the wear time once you have gotten used to it.
Checklist for effective waist training
We hope to have answered your question about how long and how often to wear your device to get the best results. To conclude, here is a practical checklist you can use to get started.
- Choose the right size and style.
- Remember that this is one of the most important factors for an effective waist training experience. Take accurate measurements, follow the size charts, and always go up a size if you are in between sizes.
- Try it on and check that it fits you well.
- After receiving your device in the mail, try it on carefully. It will be tight, but you should not have to pull or pull hard to put it on.
- Take measurements and photos to track your progress.
- Daily training leads to gradual changes. While weight loss can sometimes indicate progress, we strongly recommend taking "before and after" measurements and photos. Try to track your progress at least once a month.
- Start gradually
- Real changes take time, so be patient. Only wear your waist trainer for an hour or two at first, so that your body can adapt to the feeling it provides and you can get used to the garment.
- Gradually increase the wear time.
- Do not add more than an hour at a time. After a few weeks, you should be able to wear the garment all day.
- Adopt a healthy lifestyle.
- Waist training is only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to the most effective slimming journey. To get the best results, use it with a healthy diet, adequate hydration, and regular physical activity.
- Try to wear your waist trainer for at least eight hours a day.
- Again, this is once you have trained up to that duration.
- Alternate waist trainers.
- You will probably find that if you want to wear a waist trainer every day, you will need to use several in alternation in your wardrobe. Start with an everyday style and a training band.
- Reduce your waist and celebrate your progress!
- With a little consistency, you will tighten your belt and may even need a smaller size! Do not forget to reward yourself for your perseverance!
